🌐 English Language Requirements – With / Without IELTS

To study in countries like Canada, Australia, the UK, or the USA, proof of English proficiency is often required. However, many institutions now offer flexible options — including Duolingo, TOEFL, or even no test at all in specific cases.

Accepted English Tests:

  1. IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

    • Widely accepted in Canada, Australia, the UK, and more

    • Required scores:

      • Diploma/Bachelor: 6.0 overall (no band less than 5.5)

      • Master’s: 6.5–7.0 overall

  2. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

    • Accepted globally

    • Internet-based test (iBT) required score: 80–100+

  3. Duolingo English Test

    • Accepted by many Canadian and U.S. universities

    • Quick, affordable, and fully online

    • Required score: 95–120+

  4. PTE (Pearson Test of English)

    • Increasingly accepted worldwide

    • Alternative to IELTS/TOEFL

    • Score: 50–65+ depending on program

📌 Other Exams (for Specific Programs):

  • SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test)

    • Required for bachelor’s programs in the USA

    • Mostly optional now due to test-optional policies

  • GRE (Graduate Record Examination)

    • Required for Master’s (especially in the USA for STEM/Business)

    • Some universities waive it for strong profiles

  • GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test)

    • Needed for MBA and some business-related master’s programs

    • Some schools offer GMAT waivers

🚫 Study Without IELTS:

You can study without IELTS in the following cases:

  • You studied in an English-medium institution (with a certificate)

  • You complete a pathway or foundation program in the destination country

  • The university accepts Duolingo / TOEFL / PTE instead

  • Some colleges and universities offer IELTS waiver based on internal assessments or interviews
